Microsoft Previews Next-Generation ERP

REDMOND, Wash. — Jan. 10, 2011 — Defining a new generation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions, Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq “MSFT”) today revealed significant advancements to the architecture of the next version of Microsoft Dynamics AX, code-named Microsoft Dynamics AX “6,” that will enable independent software vendors (ISVs) to bring solutions to market faster, and at the same time lower product life-cycle investments and expand market opportunity.

“Building on the proven strengths of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, Microsoft Dynamics AX ‘6’ brings rich functionality, advanced architecture and the full power of the Microsoft stack to the business application developer,” said Hal Howard, corporate vice president, Microsoft Dynamics ERP Research and Development. “As we introduce these powerful new innovations, we maintain our focus on simplicity by streamlining application deployment, maintenance and upgradability.”

Significant new innovations in Microsoft Dynamics AX “6” include the following:

  • A unique model-driven, layered architecture that accelerates software development, requiring less coding than building from scratch and easing maintenance and upgradability. This allows developers to build high-value functionality quicker and better.
  • Pre-built interoperability with the Microsoft Application Platform, including Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 and Visual Studio 2010, and other Microsoft technologies such as Microsoft Office 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint 2010. This allows developers to spend less time on technical integration and compatibility, and increases the breadth of developer resources available to ISVs.
  • A unified ERP solution with pre-built capabilities for five industries and 38 countries, providing a rich foundation that allows ISVs to rapidly expand their solutions to new verticals and geographies.

More than 100 ISVs around the world have been working with Microsoft Dynamics AX “6” in a variety of early adopter programs over the past six months. Many of these ISVs are already building their vertically focused next-generation products on Microsoft Dynamics AX.

“We’re looking to the future with Microsoft Dynamics AX ‘6’ and are confident that its robust and scalable foundation can be counted on to help our business grow,” said Bob Hadingham, platform director at LexisNexis UK.  We have been very impressed with how quickly and easily we have been able to extend our offerings for law firms and expand our international market opportunities, by being able to focus our R&D efforts on application development for our core expertise, instead of investing in platform development.”

“Many of the ISVs we are working with have their own end-to-end vertical solutions, often built on aging legacy platforms. The combination of the next-generation architecture of Microsoft Dynamics AX and Microsoft’s partner programs creates a long-term sustainable business opportunity for these ISVs,” said Doug Kennedy, vice president, Microsoft Dynamics Partners. “We are already seeing strong momentum for the solution with ISVs.”

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 is generally available today. A Community Technical Preview of Microsoft Dynamics AX “6” is planned for February, and general availability is planned for the third quarter of 2011.

Microsoft Dynamics AX Positioned as a Leader in Magic Quadrant for ERP for Product-Centric Midmarket Companies

REDMOND, Wash. — Dec. 22, 2010 — Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq “MSFT”) today announced that Microsoft Dynamics AX is positioned as a Leader in the Magic Quadrant for ERP for Product-Centric Midmarket Companies* 2010, a research report published by Gartner Inc. In the same report, which this year evaluated global enterprise resource planning (ERP) products specifically tailored for companies with 100 to 999 employees, and with annual revenue between $50 million and $1 billion, Microsoft Dynamics NAV is recognized as a Niche Player.

Microsoft Dynamics AX has a long track record of customer success and has experienced above-average growth rates in the midmarket. The solution features an intuitive and easy-to-learn and -use Microsoft Office-like user interface, and RoleTailored dashboards. Microsoft Dynamics AX further provides a flexible architecture and solid foundation for partners to develop vertically specific solutions.

“We believe being recognized as a Leader demonstrates our commitment to enabling dynamic businesses,” said Crispin Read, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics ERP, Product Management Group, at Microsoft. “Our focus on simplicity, value and agility is key to maintaining our position as a leader in the ERP industry.”

Microsoft’s broad partner ecosystem provides a wide variety of individual solutions built on Microsoft Dynamics NAV, a highly configurable solution, to serve the specific needs of local and industry-vertical customers.

IGH Solutions Drives User Adoption Up by 246 Percent by Switching From Salesforce.com to Microsoft Dynamics CRM

REDMOND, Wash. — Nov. 23, 2010 — Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) today highlighted the benefits attained by IGH Solutions, a world leader in developing and delivering innovative solutions for specialty and dimensional printing, in three years since switching from Salesforce.com to Microsoft Dynamics CRM. They include an increase in sales-team productivity valued at $1.2 million, nearly $400,000 in reduced costs for licensing fees, a 246 percent increase in user adoption, and an ROI of 595 percent — all realized by establishing a cost-effective and standardized sales-force automation solution for use across the enterprise.

With Microsoft Dynamics CRM, IGH Solutions also resolved integration and data entry issues that had plagued the company because Salesforce.com could not integrate with its Hagen ERP system. In addition, the company was able to capitalize on its existing investment in Microsoft business productivity software, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Office, Microsoft InfoPath and Microsoft SQL Server, because of the interoperability Microsoft Dynamics CRM has with these applications.

“Our biggest draw to Microsoft Dynamics CRM from Salesforce.com was the ease of integration,” said Drew Climer, business technology specialist, IGH Solutions. “With our prior Salesforce.com-based CRM system, we were struggling to share customer data, resulting in the double entry of information. With Microsoft, we now have a single integrated customer-oriented solution.”

“IGH Solutions illustrates some key reasons why our customers have switched from other CRM products,” said Brad Wilson, general manager, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Product Management Group. “Microsoft Dynamics CRM delivers an outstanding experience for end users, as well as easy integration with external systems and services, so customers can have the control and flexibility they need to help their employees be more productive at a much lower cost.”

IGH Solutions also recognized the support Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Inetium LLC provided during the migration, as well as the advantages of an accessible partner ecosystem. “We had a lot of account consolidation to take care of, and Inetium came up with an ingenious solution to make the transition seamless and ensure that all future integrations would also be accommodated,” Climer said. “And with the plethora of Microsoft ISVs, the sky is the limit on what we can explore to extend our CRM solution.”

“I’ve been working hands on with CRM solutions since 1996, including Salesforce.com, SAP, Siebel, Sybase and PeopleSoft, and can honestly say that Microsoft Dynamics CRM is the best one I’ve worked with,” Climer said. “The same reasons we switched to Microsoft Dynamics CRM — improved productivity and ease of integration — are why we will be making the move to Microsoft Dynamics AX within the next five years.”

Microsoft also announced the general availability of the Microsoft Dynamics ERP two-tier connector that accelerates deployments between Microsoft Dynamics AX across subsidiaries, divisions or branch entities, and SAP Business Suite at the corporate headquarters. A two-tier ERP implementation model helps organizations consolidate disparate ERP solutions, provides standardization and rationalization of IT investments, and improves business agility and value by facilitating cost-effective business process integration. More information about a two-tier implementation model can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/presskits/dynamics/docs/TwoTierERP.xps.

For partners building solutions on Microsoft Dynamics NAV, the company introduced new development features for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 that will be added to the previously introduced update and will be made available in December 2010. These new features provide significant productivity improvements, giving partners the tools they need to develop, set up, configure and customize vertical solutions for customers. Those interested in learning more can visit http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/nav.

In addition, Microsoft announced that the currently available Environmental Sustainability Dashboard for Microsoft Dynamics AX has been certified by Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), verifying that the reporting of GRI content within the dashboard is compliant with the GRI standards. This recognition makes the Dashboard one of only four software applications and the only midmarket ERP solution with the GRI certification in the software applications category to date. Microsoft Dynamics Cited as an Order Management Hub Solutions Leader by Independent Research Firm

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ –Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) today announced that Microsoft Dynamics AX earned recognition from Forrester Research Inc., a leading independent research firm, as a Leader in The Forrester Wave™: Order Management Hubs, Q3 2010 (August 2010). To participate, vendors had to meet specific requirements, including an ability to provide support for market-leading industries, to demonstrate a broad business process footprint and to target organizations with 500 or more employees. These vendors were then evaluated against 112 criteria based on current offering, strategy, and market presence. According to Forrester, Microsoft Dynamics AX was one of the vendors that earned a Leader designation because of “strong support for end-to-end management processes and forward-looking product strategies.”

“We believe being named a Leader in the Forrester Wave is a reflection of the investment in our Microsoft Dynamics ERP industry road map, our support for two-tier ERP implementation scenarios and our Dynamic Business vision,” said Crispin Read, general manager, Microsoft Dynamics ERP. “By delivering on a market vision focused on simplifying the user experience, increasing productivity and delivering continuous innovation for customers, we are able to help them keep pace with the rapid rate of change in today’s complex business environment.”

Results From Forrester Research

According to Forrester, “Microsoft enters the Leader band for the first time based principally on the strength of its strategy, including a top three product and go-to-market strategy as well as market-leading ownership costs.”

The report also states, “Microsoft’s product strategy represents a compelling vision for end-to-end order management. As large and enterprise-sized companies continue to experience difficulty with existing systems, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 will play an increasing role as a key alternative for divisions and subsidiaries looking for lower-cost and more effective alternatives. Microsoft placed third of vendors evaluated for its corporate and go-to-market strategy due to strong customer reference and extended global reach through partnerships.”

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced plans to deliver a connector in the third quarter of 2010 that will accelerate two-tier ERP deployments between Microsoft Dynamics AX and SAP Business Suite.

A number of customers are using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 to increase productivity and savings including Integrated Silicon Solution Inc. (ISSI), a fabless global manufacturer. ISSI evaluated SAP and Oracle solutions before selecting Microsoft Dynamics AX to integrate global operations, reduce inventory, improve productivity and be more proactive in decision-making.

Microsoft Introduces Microsoft Dynamics ERP Two-Tier Connector for SAP Business Scenarios

REDMOND, Wash., May 17 — Microsoft Corp. today announced a new connector that accelerates two-tier enterprise resource planning (ERP) deployments between Microsoft Dynamics AX and SAP Business Suite. This new connector enables IT organizations to use Microsoft Dynamics AX across subsidiaries, divisions or branch entities to facilitate cost-effective business process integration and easily connect with SAP installations at the corporate headquarters location.

The Microsoft Dynamics ERP two-tier connector will enable common business process integration scenarios for headquarters and subsidiary locations, including the following:

  • Financial consolidation. The sharing and consolidation of detailed financial information from subsidiaries using Microsoft Dynamics AX can be automated and exposed through a central SAP installation, increasing visibility of financial performance across the organization.
  • Inter-company supply-chain integration. The integration of intercompany procurement and supply-chain processes between local and regional distribution with centralized fulfillment organizations helps facilitate automated order processing.
  • Plant automation. Integration of decentralized manufacturing operation processes into centrally orchestrated planning processes enables more accurate and responsive manufacturing planning across the organization.

Integration can easily be customized by using Microsoft BizTalk Server to provide sample mappings for electronic data interchange and detailed technical documentation.

“Organizations seeking to streamline their processes and technology should consider a two-tier ERP strategy,” said Crispin Read, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics ERP at Microsoft. “With the shifting market landscape, Microsoft is providing a simple and innovative approach to customers by providing them with a cost-effective alternative to the limitations associated with forcing a single enterprise solution across their entire business.”

According to a recent Software Insider’s Point of View survey of next-generation IT leaders, conducted by Altimeter Group analyst Ray Wang, 32 percent of survey respondents are now considering a two-tier ERP applications strategy over a single application deployment in their organizations.(1) The survey results highlight the key drivers behind moving to a two-tier ERP approach, including the need for purpose-built or industry-focused solutions coupled with the fact that existing systems are too expensive to implement and upgrade at the subsidiary level. Subsequently, companies are deploying Microsoft Dynamics ERP for its flexibility in global and vertical customizations and low total cost of ownership through integration with other Microsoft products.

“Many Microsoft customers are seeing increased measurable success by implementing a two-tier strategy using Microsoft Dynamics ERP as an alternative to a traditional monolithic deployment across their divisions or subsidiaries,” said John Scandar, senior vice president at FullScope Inc., a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner.

For instance, a customer of leading European distributor Wurth Group sees the deployment of Microsoft Dynamics AX as facilitating the ability to implement new ideas across the organization. “Thanks to Microsoft Dynamics AX, we have been able to fully implement our ideas,” said Detlef Zemke, IT manager at Normfest Group, a customer of Wurth Phoenix. “Our replenishment process has become leaner. For example, we have been able to reduce the workload on orders by 50 percent.”

GEA Group Denmark, a process engineering company, strengthened its market position by choosing Microsoft Dynamics AX to integrate its business information systems across three of its divisions.

The Microsoft Dynamics ERP connector for SAP Business Suite will be available for electronic download by Microsoft customers and partners in the third quarter of 2010, with more scenarios to follow. More information about the role of Microsoft Dynamics as a leading two-tier ERP provider is available at http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/twotier.
